These are places which are all within 45 minutes drive of Fontaine-Daniel.


From the madness of the Robert Tatin Museum, to the picturesque Medieval streets of Ste Suzanne, to the Roman ruins of Jublain and the paleolithic caves of Saulges, each location has its own charm.

lassay les chateaux

A vibrant village with three castles and an ancient rosary garden. Nice walks, cafés and restaurants. 30 minutes by car.

Ste Suzanne

Walled, medieval village famous for the Sainte Suzanne tarot. Heritage museum.

20 minutes by car.


This is an extraordinary museum with art and monolithic sculptures created by Robert Tatin in and around his home. 50 minutes by car.


Tourist office, boat trips, shopping and castle museum as well as lots to explore.15 minutes by car.


Prehistoric site with museum, in a gorge with beautiful walks.

45 minutes by car.


Village with a Roman archeological site and museum, Roman bath visible in the church foundations.

20 minutes by car.

Recommended restaurants

There are many restaurants in the region, varying from haute cuisine to friendly country cooking. These are just a selection of my favourites. One tip - always phone ahead to makes sure the restaurant is open, especially in August! There are many others, so if you want a recommendation for your visit, please let me know and I am happy to make an advanced booking for you.


Le Carotte

Friendly and fun riverside restaurant with tasty organic food. Recommended for good lunch (soup is pay 'what you wish' and Friday night tapas with live music.


Grand Hotel

Excellent menu in hotel restaurant which is in centre of Mayenne with views onto the river.



Local cuisine, one lunch menu with five courses for around €12 including wine and cider. Perfect for after a good walk!


Eveil de Sens

A tiny, Michelin starred restaurant with exquisite menu and beautiful food. A real treat. Book early!


Brocantes and vide grenier

Throughout the summer there are many local vide grenier (empty the attic) and brocantes (secondhand sales) where you can buy all manner of furniture, bric-a-brac and art pieces.Music, food and wine can always be found at these village events so even if you don't but anything it is events a lovely way to spend a Sunday morning. Leisure and activities
